The Will Eisner Comic Book Awards ceremony took place at San Diego Comic Con this weekend, and the awards were given out to a delightfully diverse group of winners.

monstress book coverMarjorie Liu has made history as the first woman to win the Best Writer category for Monstress (a tie with Tom King for Batman Annual #2), which won every award it was nominated for. We are big fans at Book Riot! Sana Takeda took Best Cover and Best Painter/Multimedia Artist. The series also won Best Continuing Series and Best Publication for Teens.

Monstress made the list of Best Comics We Read in April and is one of 35 Fantastic Lesbian Comic Books and Graphic Memoirs.

My Favorite Thing is Monsters book coverEmil Ferris won Best Writer/Illustrator and Best Coloring for My Favorite Thing is Monsters, another Book Riot favorite, which also took Best Graphic Album.

My Favorite Thing is Monsters appears on several Book Riot lists, including 35 Fantastic Lesbian Comic Books and Graphic Memoirs and 10 Murder Mystery Comics.

 

 

Wakanda Forever! Roxane Gay, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and Alitha E. Martinez won Best Limited Series for Black Panther: World of Wakanda.

Best New Series went to Black Bolt by Saladin Ahmed and Christian Ward.
