How to Find Your Next Great Read Using Instagram
There are a lot of great book blogs and bookish people to follow on the Internet. Among other avenues, you can look in the comments section of your favorite blogs, you can spend some time going down rabbit holes on Twitter, or you can use Google. All of which can lead you to your next great read.
One of my new favorite ways is via Instagram. This is not a forum that automatically brings literature to mind, since it is a site based around photographs not words (though the captions are often my favorite part). However, as you probably already know, there are a lot of bookish types on Instagram; readers, writers, publishers, editors, bookstores, etc. all of who are sharing their latest and greatest reads with their followers.
How to find these people?
The easiest way: If you know who you are looking for, using the search option with the name of the person or company is the best way to go.
A little more time consuming: Go to your favorite book-related Instagram feed and look at who they are following. Searching through these people will often bring you to some other fantastic bookish accounts. This is a better option if you have a bit of time on your hands… like waiting at the airport kind of time… but it’s often worth it for the gems you will come across.
My favorite way: In your newsfeed, keep an eye out for what your favorite bookish accounts are liking – plenty of times it will have to do with books (go figure). This will often lead to another literary minded account that you can scroll through to see which new reads they’ve been posting about, and maybe even give you another fabulous bookish feed to follow!
If you are still at a loss for where to start, many of us Book Rioters have Instagram accounts which are searchable by our names, Book Riot has an Instagram account, and we’ve already posted about Ten Authors and Publishers to Follow on Instagram. Have fun finding your next great read!
