Convince Me to Read: THE GOLDFINCH
I am incredibly hesitant about reading brand new books. I get nervous about investing my time in titles that are so new there aren’t usually a ton of reader reviews (which I trust much more than newspaper reviews). Because of that, I’m going to throw out some titles here on Book Riot and see what YOU think of them. I’m going to ask you to convince me to read it (or not to read it), below in the comments. Those of you who have read it will get a chance to say what you think, those of you who are hesitant to read it will get to see what other readers think. Only rule: no spoilers please!
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
This is the book that EVERYONE is raving about. Seriously, it’s giving me anxiety about actually reading it. There is no way it’s as good as I keep hearing. Someone, somewhere must have thought this book was “meh.” I just don’t believe in any book that has no critics… well, no loud critics.
Does everyone love this book because they love Donna Tartt and they have to wait a decade in between each book? Is this a dark I want to rip my hair out while reading it book that everyone HAS to like or they won’t feel deep? Is this one of those books that people already know is going to win awards, so they want to jump on the I-told-you-so bandwagon early? Or is it really, really just that amazing?
Why should I (and other readers) read this book?
