I am not much of a drinker. I don’t really care for wine, and I hate the taste of beer. When I do drink, I stick to hard cider and clear liquor. I spend a lot of time with beer drinkers, though, and that means that I drink a lot of coke while they achieve the desired level of intoxication. That changed recently, when I stumbled across a beer brewed here in Houston that is all but perfection – the Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company’s “Summer.”

As I drank that first glass – actually a shandy, made with hibiscus soda – I thought about how that would be the perfect drink to accompany a long, lazy afternoon spent on the patio with a book in my hand. I’m on the search for the perfect book to pair it with, something that is also crisp, clean, and sweet. If you have ideas, I’d love to get your suggestions.

While I’m looking, I thought it would be fun to ask around for a few other beer, booze, and book pairings. The list is a work in progress, but here are a few of the recommendations that have turned up in my Twitter feed so far:

There were enough wine and martini recommendations to warrant their own lists, so I’ll be back with special editions. If you have any suggestions for the perfect drink to serve with your favorite book, I’d love to see them in the comments or on Twitter.
