Intensely Creepy Doesn’t Begin to Describe the New ANNIHILATION Trailer
A new trailer was just released for Alex Garland’s adaptation of Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. For those of you who don’t know the book, it’s the first in VanderMeer’s Southern Reach trilogy. Four women are sent on a mission to a paranormal soaked, mold-covered remote terrain. They are—supposedly—the 12th group to take on this mission. When previous groups have returned—sorry, if they’ve returned—they are never the same.
Here’s Book Riot’s take on the first trailer, with more info about the movie.
Watch the trailer, and then read my “spoilers” (can you spoil a trailer?) below.
For those of us who’ve read Annihilation I imagine the first clip, of something falling from space and hitting a lighthouse, may raise some eyebrows. Also, what’s with Alien-looking monster? The beauty of Annihilation, to me, is that the monster in your head is scarier than anything VanderMeer could describe. It’s the not-knowing, the creeping sensation that makes this book so wonderfully unnerving. BUT what works for a book, won’t necessarily work for a movie.
Regardless of how well the movie sticks to the book, this trailer promises an intensely creepy experience—a jump out of your seat and sleep with the lights on for a week movie. I, for one, am psyched.
