Soothe Your Soul With These Pictures of Books and Leaves

Staff Writer

Claire Handscombe moved from Europe to DC in 2012, ostensibly to study for an MFA in Creative Writing, but actually – let’s be honest – because of an obsession with The West Wing. She is the author of Unscripted, a novel about a young woman with a celebrity crush and a determined plan, and the editor of Walk With Us: How The West Wing Changed Our Lives. She also hosts the Brit Lit Podcast, a fortnightly show of news and views from British books and publishing. Blog: the Brit Lit Blog. Twitter: @BookishClaire

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers,” Anne Shirley once exclaimed – she of the Green Gables – and she’s not the only one. Although autumn isn’t everyone’s favourite season for reading, there’s something about cozying under blankets on chillier days with a hot chocolate and a soothing read that definitely appeals. And it’s a Bookstagrammer’s paradise, too – pictures of books on beaches replaced by pictures of books amid leaves and golden scenery. Since we can all use more calming beauty in our lives, I’ve picked out a few  of my recent favourites for you.

I love the subtle nuances in this leaf’s colours – and that the books aren’t the feature, and yet we are comforted by their presence.

Love this Nicholas Sparks quote – and the creativity of making it float in coffee!

The books are hiding in camouflage in this one!

Don’t you wish you were reading by this window?

Look, there’s a leaf in this one, okay? And lots of other fall things. It still counts as a leaf pic. And look how pretty…
