Simone Jung

Staff Writer

Simone is a bookstagrammer with a penchant for writing. When she's not working at her day job, she spending her nights following the rabbit hole of good reads. She's an advocate for diverse reads, but she also loves a good thriller, a romantic meet cute, a coming-of-age story, a historical drama, and the everyday mishaps of life. You can find her blogging at http://simoneandherbooks.com

Bookstagram is the Instagram book community where readers and writers can come together to celebrate great reads, share their thoughts on books, and make life-long reading buddies. One of my favorite things in the world is following bookstagrammers who also happen to be authors.

Like many readers, authors enjoy reading too and when they’re not promoting their own reads, they are promoting their friends or great books. Some authors have dedicated their pages to bookstagram while others post their reads between real-life. Stylized photos, bookish recommendations, and their daily life are fun ways for authors to interact with the people who will eventually read their books. It’s also a good way to get some more bookish recommendations! If you’re not already following these authors, then I think you should.

Jacqueline Mellow (@ejmellow)

Jacqueline is probably the first person I ever followed that was an author and posted photos of her reads on Instagram. The author of Animal Under the Fur not only riddles her page with bookish goodies, she has some of the most amazing lifestyle photos. I just dream of ways to improve the way my reading and writing nooks look because of her.

Andrea Dunlop (@andreadunlop)

Not only is she the author of She Regrets Nothing, she’s also an avid bookstagrammer. Self-proclaimed on her page, Andrea Dunlop shares all her favorite reads as well as tidbits from her life. When authors like Andrea Dunlop share her reads, I feel like I’m connecting with her on a reading level. It’s pretty much everything I asked for.

Sabaa Tahir (@sabaatahir)

The author of the popular Ember in the Ashes series loves to share a book! She’s not a dedicated bookstagrammer, but Sabaa Tahir has a ton of author friends and takes the time to hype her friends up on her page. She’s also an extremely entertaining Instagram stories creator, so definitely follow her if you’re into people who personify veggies.

Rainbow Rowell (@rainbowrowell)

When Rainbow Rowell wrote Fangirlyou knew that she was a reader and even loved fan fiction for some of the more famous novels. Now, you can follow her on Instagram and check out what other books she’s fangirling about!

Roxane Gay (@roxanegay74)

While Roxane Gay may be one Bad Feministshe’s also one of the more prolific readers I follow on Goodreads. It’s even better that she shares some of her favorites on Instagram. Her page isn’t fully dedicated to bookstagram, but you do get to see what Roxane Gay has been reading lately. What’s also great about her page is that she includes a lot of diverse reads, so if you’re looking to beef up your #ownvoices book list, definitely check Roxane Gay’s page out.

Samantha Irby (@bitchesgottaeat)

I’m a huge fan of Samantha Irby’s book We Are Never Meeting in Real Life and her page is just a direct reflection of her funny demeanor. On top of that, she’s got some excellent captions to go along with her reads. She’s also always reading some funny authors and folks you might find interesting as well.

Chloe Benjamin (@chloekbenjamin)

The author of The Immortalists also loves to share her reads with her followers. Not only does she share what she’s reading, but she writes such engaging captions that glimpse into her thoughts. I love it when I can read what an author thought of a book.

Are there any bookstagram authors you love to follow?
